Methodology
How the score works
The checkup has two independent parts. Eligibility compares your numbers with YouTube's published thresholds. Content risk is a transparent checklist based on YouTube's inauthentic and reused content policies. Each habit below adds points:
| Signal | Points | Policy basis |
|---|---|---|
| AI persona discussing health, legal, financial, or political topics | 10 (always high) | Inauthentic content: AI personas on sensitive topics |
| Same template on almost every video | 3 (sometimes: 1) | Generic, repetitive, or template-based |
| No commentary or editing of your own | 3 (inconsistent: 1) | Original, authentic content |
| Heavy use of other creators' footage | 3, or 1 if you always add commentary | Reused content |
| Some third-party footage with no input of your own | 2 | Reused content |
| Compilations or top-list niche | 2 | Reused content |
| AI voice and AI visuals with limited human input | 1 | Mass-produced content |
| AI visuals without labeling realistic synthetic content | 1 | Altered or synthetic content disclosure |
| Sensitive niche made with AI tools | 1 | Stricter review in sensitive topics |
Risk level: 0–2 points is low, 3–5 is medium, 6 or more is high. Grade: A = 0 points, B = 1–2, C = 3–5, D = 6–9, F = 10 or more (including any AI persona on sensitive topics).
Limits: the point weights are our editorial judgment, not YouTube's. YouTube reviews your channel as a whole, by humans, and can weigh things this checklist can't see. Treat the result as a pre-flight check, not a prediction.
FAQ
Common questions
Is this checker official from YouTube?
No. Creator Checkup is an independent tool for guidance only. YouTube makes the final call when its team reviews your channel.
What are the current YPP requirements?
1,000 subscribers and 4,000 qualified watch hours in the last 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers and 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days.
What changes on February 1, 2027?
New applicants will need 8,000 watch hours in the last 365 days or 20 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. Channels already in YPP won't be removed.
Can I monetize a channel made with AI?
Yes—AI tools are allowed. What puts channels at risk is mass-produced, templated, or look-alike content (and AI personas on sensitive topics like health, legal, financial, or political). Vary structure and insight between videos; check YouTube's monetization policies in Help for the current wording.
Does the AI disclosure label decide monetization?
No. Labeling realistic altered or synthetic content in Studio is a disclosure step. It is separate from YPP eligibility. Honesty about AI use does not by itself approve or deny ads; eligibility still depends on thresholds and whether your content meets monetization policies.
How is the grade calculated?
Each risky production habit adds points based on YouTube's inauthentic and reused content policies. The total sets the risk level and the letter grade. The full point table is in the methodology section on this page.
Are my answers stored?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser, and nothing is sent to a server.
