How to Appeal a YPP Rejection for Reused or Inauthentic Content

A rejection email isn't the end. You have two routes, appeal or reapply, and YouTube's own Help pages spell out the rules for both.

Quick answer

You can appeal a YPP rejection within 21 days, with an unlisted video appeal under 5 minutes or through Creator Support in YouTube Studio, and YouTube says it responds within 14 days. Don't delete videos first: appeals assess your channel in its current state. If the appeal fails, you can reapply 90 days after the rejection date; without an appeal, a first rejection can reapply after 30 days.

This guide summarizes YouTube's published process. It's not legal advice, and YouTube doesn't promise any outcome. Deadlines in your YouTube Studio Earn section take priority.

First: read the rejection email

YouTube says a rejection means its human reviewers "believe that a significant portion of your channel does not meet our policies and guidelines," and that the rejection email "will tell you the specific policies that your channel violated" (My channel was rejected for monetization FAQs). Everything below depends on which policy it names: reused content, or one of the inauthentic content guidelines (generic or repetitive, unsatisfying or off-putting, AI personas on sensitive topics) in the YouTube channel monetization policies.

How to submit an appeal

YouTube offers two ways, depending on what Studio shows you (Appeal a YPP suspension or rejection):

  • Video appeal: upload the appeal video as unlisted, copy its URL, go to Earn in YouTube Studio, start the appeal, paste the URL, and submit.
  • Creator Support: in YouTube Studio, go to Earn, find "Appeal if you think we made a mistake," and click Start Appeal.

Video appeal requirements

  • A new upload, set to unlisted, on the channel you're appealing, submitted from your account.
  • Less than 5 minutes long. Video only: YouTube says not to put appeal info in the description.
  • Narrated in a supported language (Arabic, Bengali, English, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese), or with English subtitles that aren't auto-generated.
  • Your channel URL within the first 30 seconds.

What to show reviewers

YouTube says it wants "a behind-the-scenes look at your process." Your video should refer to specific parts of the policies with examples of how your channel follows them, focus on the channel as a whole rather than a few good videos, and show how your content was filmed or edited. You can show yourself or provide a voiceover, so a faceless channel can appeal without appearing on camera (Appeal a YPP suspension or rejection).

For AI-assisted and faceless channels, that usually means screen recordings of:

  • Your research notes and script document, showing your own angle and writing.
  • Your editing timeline: cuts, graphics, and the commentary you add to any borrowed material.
  • How you record narration, or how you set up a clone of your own voice.
  • Several different videos, to show the substance is "materially varied" and not one template with new topics.
  • For reused content: the original source next to your version, so the "meaningful difference" YouTube asks for is obvious.

A simple outline (our suggestion, not a YouTube template)

  1. 0:00–0:30: channel URL, what the channel is about, and the policy named in your email.
  2. 0:30–3:30: your process on screen: research, script, voice, and editing, connected to specific uploads.
  3. 3:30–4:30: how the channel as a whole meets the policy, with two or three different examples.

Mistakes that sink appeals

  • Deleting videos right before you appeal. YouTube says the channel is assessed in its current state and that "you shouldn't delete videos before submitting your appeal."
  • Arguing copyright or permission against a reused content decision. The policy applies "even if you have permission from the original creator" and "it's not based on copyright, permission, or fair use."
  • Showing one good video. Reviewers judge the channel as a whole, with emphasis on your main theme, most viewed and newest videos, and metadata (YouTube channel monetization policies).
  • Switching channels to get around it. If a channel has been demonetized or terminated, YouTube says you shouldn't create new (or use existing) channels to get around those restrictions, and that doing so could lead to termination of all channels (YouTube channel monetization policies).

Suspended rather than rejected?

The timing is different. If YouTube tells you a suspension is scheduled, you can appeal within 7 days and the suspension is paused while your appeal is reviewed. If you're already suspended, you have 21 days. In both cases YouTube says it responds within 14 days, and if the appeal is rejected you can reapply 90 days after the suspension (Appeal a YPP suspension or rejection).

Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to appeal a YPP rejection?

21 days, regardless of how many times you've applied. You start the appeal from the Earn section of YouTube Studio.

How long does a YPP appeal take?

YouTube says its teams respond within 14 days. If the appeal is successful, YouTube approves the channel for YPP within 30 days.

Should I delete videos before I appeal?

No. YouTube says it assesses your channel in its current state and that you shouldn't delete videos before submitting your appeal. Editing or deleting violating videos is the advice before you reapply.

Can I appeal without showing my face?

Yes. YouTube's video appeal guidance says you can show yourself in the video or provide a voiceover, as long as you show how your content is created and edited.

What happens if my appeal is rejected?

You can reapply to YPP 90 days after the rejection date. Use that time to fix the patterns the rejection email named.

When can I reapply without appealing?

30 days after a first rejection email, or 90 days if it isn't your first rejection or you've reapplied before. A new review takes about a month.
